AS Level Sketchbooks:

Preliminary work

Images of artists and source material are collated together. Later on Individual artists will be look at in more depth.

Drawings From Observation

Different types of media are used in direct observation work. Above mono printing is used.

Observational drawings are still extremely important at this level. This is not something to be ignored past GCSE.

Artist Research

This student is looking at sewing within an artists work. He has then experimented with his own images. This brings in media experimentation in a precise way.

Artists Are brought in: This is done in a considered way. What you learn about their practice is then applied to your own work through experimentation.

Media Experimentation

Linocut over collaged tissue. As well as media composition is also being considered here.

varieties are carried out and assessed. Remember to document the thoughts you have, annotation is important, it allows the reader to follow your creative process.

Overlays of images are created using projector paper

Design Development

Variations are carried out, assessed and judged. The more you do, the stronger the final idea will be. Exhaust the options. Media experimentation can be applied to this process as well.

Evaluation

Once the final piece has been created the whole process is analysed. This is a useful step as any improvements that need to be made can be noted and put into practice within the next project. Each one is a learning process that informs you year after year.
